Synopsis/Plot
Alive is a 1993 American biographical survival drama film directed by Frank Marshall and based on Piers Paul Read’s 1974 book Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors. The film recounts the true story of a Uruguayan rugby team who, after their plane crashed in the Andes mountains in 1972, were forced to survive on meager rations and by resorting to cannibalism.
The film stars Ethan Hawke, Vincent Spano, Josh Hamilton, and Bruce Ramsay as the survivors of the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed in the Andes mountains on October 13, 1972. The plane was carrying 45 passengers, including a rugby team and their friends and family, when it crashed into a mountain. After the crash, the survivors are left with little food and no hope of rescue. As they struggle to survive, they must face the harsh elements of the mountain range and the psychological effects of being stranded in such a remote location.
The survivors soon realize that their only hope of rescue is to try to make their way across the mountain range to Chile. With no supplies, they are forced to resort to desperate measures, including the unthinkable act of cannibalism. As they continue their journey, the
