Synopsis – What to Expect from “Age of Consent”
Age of Consent is a 1969 drama film directed by Michael Powell and starring James Mason and Helen Mirren.
The story follows a disillusioned artist, Bradley Morahan (Mason), who is living in a small fishing village in Australia. He has been struggling to find inspiration for his artwork, and is feeling increasingly disconnected from the world. One day, he meets Cora Ryan (Mirren), a young girl who lives with her grandmother on the beach. Cora is a free-spirited and adventurous girl, and the two quickly form a strong bond.
Bradley begins to paint again, inspired by Cora’s beauty and innocence. But their relationship soon becomes complicated when Cora’s grandmother discovers that Bradley is much older than her granddaughter. Despite this, Bradley and Cora continue to spend time together, and Bradley eventually falls in love with her.
When Cora’s grandmother finds out, she threatens to report Bradley to the police for statutory rape. In order to protect Cora from the legal ramifications of their relationship, Bradley decides to take her away from the village and start a new life together.
The couple embarks on a journey of discovery, exploring the Australian wilderness and experiencing the beauty of nature. Along the way, they must confront the moral and legal implications of their relationship, as well as their own feelings for each other. In the end, they must decide whether to continue on their journey together or part ways.
