Synopsis – What to Expect from “Afterschool”

Afterschool is a 2008 psychological drama directed by Antonio Campos. It follows the story of Robert, a shy and introverted high school student who is struggling to fit in at his new school. After one of his classmates overdoses on drugs, Robert is tasked with documenting the events leading up to the tragedy.

The film opens with Robert (Ezra Miller) arriving at his new school, where he is immediately out of place and unable to make friends. He spends much of his time alone in his dorm room, watching documentaries and researching his school’s history.

One day, Robert notices two girls from his school, Emily (Emma Rayne Lyle) and Amy (Addison Timlin), taking drugs in the school bathroom. He follows them to a party, where he watches as Emily overdoses. Robert is the only witness to the event, and he is tasked with documenting the events leading up to Emily’s death.

Robert begins to investigate the events leading up to Emily’s death, interviewing her friends and family and digging into her past. He soon discovers that Emily was a troubled girl who was struggling with depression and drug addiction.

As Robert continues to investigate, he discovers a dark secret about his school that has been hidden for years. He also discovers that he is not the only one who is struggling to fit in at the school, and that there are other students who are just as lost and lonely as he is.

The film ends
