Synopsis/Plot
Adore is a 2013 Australian-French drama film directed by Anne Fontaine and starring Naomi Watts and Robin Wright. The film follows the lifelong friendship between two women, Roz and Lil, and the consequences that arise when they each become involved in an affair with the other’s son.
The film is set in an idyllic Australian coastal town, and begins with Roz and Lil, two lifelong friends, reminiscing about their past. They have known each other since they were young girls and have been like family since their husbands passed away. When Roz’s son, Ian, returns home from college, he and Lil’s son, Tom, become close friends. As the two boys spend more time together, Roz and Lil begin to notice a spark between them and their sons.
Roz and Lil eventually give in to their mutual attraction and begin a passionate affair with each other’s son. The affair quickly becomes complicated as the two women struggle to keep their secret from their sons and the rest of the town. As the affair progresses, it begins to take its toll on Roz and Lil’s friendship as they grapple with the guilt and consequences of their actions.
