Synopsis – What to Expect from “Adopt a Highway”
Adopt a Highway is a 2019 drama film starring Ethan Hawke as Russell Millings, a recently released convict who is trying to rebuild his life after spending 21 years in prison.
The story begins with Russell being released from prison after serving two decades of a life sentence for a crime he committed as a teenager. With no family or friends to turn to, he is forced to start his life over from scratch.
He finds himself living in a rundown motel, and struggling to find work due to his criminal record. Desperate to make a fresh start, he soon discovers an abandoned baby in a dumpster and decides to take the infant in and care for her.
Russell soon realizes that he can’t provide the baby with the life he desires for her and decides to put her up for adoption. This leads him to a local adoption agency where he meets a kind-hearted social worker, Lydia (Elaine Hendrix).
Lydia helps Russell find a loving home for the baby and also helps him find a job at a local highway maintenance company. Russell quickly finds joy in his newfound career and takes great pride in caring for the highway.
However, his newfound happiness is soon threatened when he discovers that the company he works for is involved in illegal activities. With the help of Lydia, Russell decides to take a stand against the company and risks his own freedom to protect the highway.
