Synopsis – What to Expect from “Adam’s Rib”

Adam’s Rib is a 1949 American romantic comedy film directed by George Cukor and starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn. The film follows the story of two married lawyers, Adam (Tracy) and Amanda Bonner (Hepburn), who find themselves on opposite sides of a sensational court case.

Adam is a successful lawyer who is called upon to prosecute a woman, Doris Attinger (Judy Holliday), for attempted murder. He is determined to prove her guilty and is confident that he will win the case. However, Amanda, who is also a lawyer, takes on the defense of Doris and makes it her mission to prove her innocence.

As Adam and Amanda battle it out in court, their own marriage begins to suffer. Amanda is frustrated that Adam is so determined to prove Doris guilty, while Adam is angered by Amanda’s refusal to accept his viewpoint. The two begin to argue and their marriage is put to the test.

The courtroom drama intensifies as Amanda and Adam continue to clash and Doris’ fate hangs in the balance. Eventually, the jury reaches a verdict and the truth is revealed. In the end, the couple must decide if their marriage is worth saving.
