Synopsis – What to Expect from “A.C.O.D.”
A.C.O.D. is a 2013 comedy-drama film written and directed by Stu Zicherman. It stars Adam Scott, Amy Poehler, Richard Jenkins, Catherine O’Hara, and Jessica Alba.
The film follows Carter (Adam Scott), a successful restaurant owner who is struggling to come to terms with his parents’ divorce. Carter’s parents, Melissa (Catherine O’Hara) and Hugh (Richard Jenkins), have been divorced for 20 years, but their relationship is still strained. Carter’s older brother, Trey (Clark Duke), is happily married but is struggling to have a baby with his wife, Lauren (Amy Poehler).
When Carter’s therapist (Jane Lynch) suggests that he attend a family therapy session, he reluctantly agrees. At the session, Carter’s parents and Trey are surprised to learn that Carter was an Adult Child of Divorce (A.C.O.D.) – a child of divorced parents who has been affected by the divorce in some way.
The family therapy session helps Carter to understand his parents better and to accept their divorce. He also begins to bond with Trey and Lauren, and to appreciate their relationship. However, Carter’s newfound understanding is put to the test when his parents announce that they are getting remarried.
