Synopsis – What to Expect from “About Alex”
About Alex is a drama-comedy movie released in 2014. It follows the story of seven college friends who reunite for a weekend in the countryside after their friend Alex (Aubrey Plaza) attempts suicide.
The movie starts with Alex being released from the hospital after her suicide attempt. She is welcomed back to her old college group of friends, who have all gone their separate ways since college. The group consists of Ben (Max Greenfield), Sarah (Jane Levy), Josh (Nate Parker), Kate (Maggie Grace), Isaac (Max Minghella), and Siri (Maggie Carey).
The group is initially hesitant to accept Alex back, but they eventually warm up to her. During the weekend, the friends reconnect and reminisce about their college days while also dealing with the issues that have arisen since then. Alex struggles to come to terms with her mental health issues, while Ben and Sarah grapple with their strained relationship. Josh and Kate have to confront their feelings for each other, and Isaac and Siri have to face the fact that their relationship is not as strong as it once was.
The group eventually comes to terms with their issues and realizes that although they have all changed, they are still the same people they were in college. They accept Alex and her mental health issues, and as the weekend comes to a close, the friends part ways with a newfound understanding and appreciation for one another.
