Synopsis/Plot
About a Boy is a 2002 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Chris and Paul Weitz and written by them and Peter Hedges. Based on the 1998 novel of the same name by Nick Hornby, the film stars Hugh Grant as Will Freeman, a bachelor in London who is content to live off the royalties of a song written by his father. When he meets 12-year-old Marcus, played by Nicholas Hoult, an odd and unpopular boy, their unlikely friendship changes both of their lives.
Will is a shallow, self-absorbed bachelor who lives off the royalties of a song written by his father. He lives in a luxurious London apartment and has no direction in life. His main interest is in finding a woman to sleep with and then move on. Through his eccentric and wealthy neighbor, Fiona, he meets Marcus, a 12-year-old boy whose single mother, Suzie, is a depressed and overworked nurse. Marcus is an odd and unpopular kid who is constantly picked on at school and has no friends.
Will and Marcus begin to form an unlikely friendship. Will starts to feel guilty about his lifestyle and begins to help Marcus with his problems. He helps Marcus stand up to bullies,
