Synopsis/Plot
ABBA: The Movie is a 1977 musical comedy-drama film directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Agnetha Fältskog, the members of the Swedish pop group ABBA. The film follows the fictional story of a radio DJ from Australia, Ashley Wallace (Robert Hughes), who is sent by his station to Europe to follow the band on their tour and report back on their progress. Along the way, Ashley falls in love with a fan of the band, and the two embark on a romantic adventure.
The film is set against the backdrop of ABBA’s 1975 tour of Europe, beginning in Stockholm and ending in London. It features several of the band’s biggest hits, including “Mamma Mia,” “Waterloo,” “Dancing Queen,” and “Money, Money, Money.” The film also features several of ABBA’s lesser-known songs, such as “Tropical Loveland” and “Intermezzo No. 1.”
