Synopsis – What to Expect from “A Night at the Opera”
A Night at the Opera is a classic comedy film released in 1935. The Marx Brothers, Groucho, Chico, and Harpo, star as Otis and Wilson B. Driftwood, two con men who have come to New York City to make their fortune. They soon meet up with the wealthy Mrs. Claypool, who is looking for someone to manage her opera company. Otis and Wilson offer their services, and soon they are managing the company, much to the chagrin of the opera’s director, Signor Emanuel Ravelli.
The opera company is in dire straits, and the Driftwoods must use all their wiles to save it. They enlist the help of a wealthy baron, Rudolpho, to invest in the company. Meanwhile, Mrs. Claypool’s daughter, Rosa, is in love with the baron, but her disapproving mother has forbidden her to see him. The Driftwoods hatch a plan to help Rosa elope with the baron, and in the process, save the opera company.
The Driftwoods enlist the help of their old friend Fiorello, a stowaway who has been living in the company’s opera house. Together, they concoct a plan to keep the baron and Rosa together while saving the opera company at the same time. The plan involves a series of outrageous stunts, including one in which the Driftwoods and Fiorello sneak into the opera house and perform a musical
