Synopsis/Plot
A Most Violent Year is a 2014 crime drama set in New York City in 1981, which was the most violent year in the city’s history. The film follows Abel Morales (Oscar Isaac), an immigrant who is trying to expand his heating oil business while navigating a series of threats and obstacles. He is an honest and ambitious man who is determined to succeed, but his ambition leads him into a world of corruption and violence.
Abel’s wife Anna (Jessica Chastain) is a former prosecutor who is also determined to protect her family and their business. Together, they face a series of threats from rival gangs, corrupt politicians, and the police. Abel’s moral code is tested as he struggles to keep his business afloat while trying to stay within the law.
The film is a gripping exploration of ambition and morality, and the lengths to which people will go to protect their dreams. Abel and Anna’s story is full of tension and suspense, as they battle to survive in a city where lawlessness and violence are rampant.
