Synopsis – What to Expect from “A Mighty Wind”
A Mighty Wind is a 2003 American mockumentary comedy film about a folk music reunion concert in which three folk bands reunite for a television performance for the first time in decades. The film was directed by Christopher Guest and stars an ensemble cast including Guest, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Michael McKean, Harry Shearer, and Bob Balaban.
The movie follows the reunion of three folk bands from the 1960s: The Folksmen, The Main Street Singers, and Mitch & Mickey. Each of the bands has gone their separate ways in the intervening years, but they are brought back together for a television special commemorating the retirement of the show’s producer, Irving Steinbloom.
The Folksmen are a trio of middle-aged men who sing traditional folk songs. They are led by Mark Shubb (Christopher Guest), a former singing partner of Irving Steinbloom. The Main Street Singers are a more modern folk group, led by the former husband and wife duo of Mitch Cohen (Eugene Levy) and Mickey Crabbe (Catherine O’Hara). Mitch and Mickey have since divorced, but they continue to perform together on occasion. The third group is Mitch & Mickey, a duo of two former lovers who have not seen each other in over 20 years.
The movie follows the three bands as they rehearse for the concert and the television special. As they prepare, the musicians grapple with a range
