Synopsis/Plot
A Knight’s Tale is a 2001 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Brian Helgeland and starring Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, Rufus Sewell, Shannyn Sossamon, and Alan Tudyk. The film follows the story of William Thatcher, a peasant who dreams of becoming a knight. With the help of his loyal friends, William embarks on a quest to compete in a jousting tournament and prove himself worthy of knighthood.
The film takes place in the 14th century, when William Thatcher (Heath Ledger) and his two friends, Roland (Mark Addy) and Wat (Alan Tudyk), are working as lowly servants in a small village. After the death of their master, William is inspired to take his place in a jousting tournament. With the help of his friends and a few local villagers, they build a makeshift armor and a horse, and William takes on the identity of a knight.
William and his team travel to the tournament, where he meets and falls in love with Jocelyn (Shannyn Sossamon), a beautiful noblewoman. His newfound identity and skill in jousting earn him a place in the tournament
