Synopsis/Plot
A Hidden Life is a 2019 historical drama film written and directed by Terrence Malick. It is based on the true story of Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian farmer who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II.
The film follows Jägerstätter (played by August Diehl) and his wife Fani (played by Valerie Pachner), as they struggle to maintain their faith and morality in a time of great turmoil and uncertainty. Despite the threat of execution, Jägerstätter refuses to sign an oath of allegiance to Hitler, and is sentenced to death by the Nazis.
