Synopsis/Plot
A Few Good Men is a 1992 American courtroom drama film directed by Rob Reiner and starring Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Kiefer Sutherland. The film is based on the 1989 play of the same name by Aaron Sorkin.
The film follows the court-martial of two U.S. Marines, Private First Class Louden Downey (Bacon) and Lance Corporal Harold Dawson (Sutherland), who are charged with the murder of a fellow Marine at the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base in Cuba. Lieutenant Daniel Kaffee (Cruise), a Naval lawyer, is assigned to defend the two Marines. Kaffee is initially reluctant to take on the case, but is soon convinced by his commanding officer, Colonel Nathan R. Jessep (Nicholson), to take it on.
Kaffee and his legal team, which includes Lieutenant Commander JoAnne Galloway (Moore), soon discover that the two Marines were following orders from their commanding officer, and that the murder was part of a “code red”, an illegal form of discipline.
