Synopsis/Plot
A Christmas Story is a 1983 American Christmas comedy film directed by Bob Clark and based on Jean Shepherd’s semi-fictional anecdotes in his 1966 book In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash. The film follows the adventures of nine-year-old Ralphie Parker, who wants an air rifle for Christmas and his various misadventures with his family and friends.
The story takes place in the fictional town of Hohman, Indiana, in the 1940s, and follows Ralphie, a young boy who is desperate to get a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. He is repeatedly told by his mother, his teacher, and even a department store Santa Claus that he will “shoot his eye out” if he gets one. Despite these warnings, Ralphie persists in his quest for the gun. Along the way, Ralphie encounters a variety of obstacles, including a cranky department store Santa, a triple-dog-dare to lick a freezing flagpole, and a leg lamp that is a major award for his father.
