Synopsis/Plot
A Choice of Weapons is a feature-length documentary inspired by the life and work of photographer, writer, and filmmaker Gordon Parks. The film chronicles Parks’ journey from poverty-stricken childhood in Fort Scott, Kansas, to becoming one of the most influential and acclaimed artists of the 20th century. Through archival footage, interviews, and dramatic recreations, the film tells the story of Parks’ rise to prominence in the world of photography, his early years as a fashion photographer in New York City, and his move into filmmaking, which included directing the classic film Shaft.
The film also examines Parks’ groundbreaking work in civil rights, his commitment to social justice, and his efforts to bring attention to the struggles of African Americans in the United States.
