Synopsis – What to Expect from “5 Days of War”
5 Days of War is a 2011 war film directed by Renny Harlin and starring Rupert Friend, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Richard Coyle, Val Kilmer, and Heather Graham. The film is based on the 2008 Russo-Georgian War, and follows the story of Thomas Anders (Friend), a journalist who is embedded with a group of Georgian soldiers during the conflict.
The film opens with the Georgian army preparing for a war with Russia. Thomas Anders, a journalist, is embedded with the Georgian troops and witnesses the horrors of war firsthand. As the war progresses, Thomas is faced with difficult decisions as he struggles to keep his own safety as well as the safety of those around him. He is also forced to confront his own inner demons as he struggles to make sense of the violence and chaos around him.
The war continues to escalate, and Thomas is soon thrust into the middle of a heated battle between the two sides. He is forced to make a difficult decision when the Georgian troops are ordered to retreat, and must decide whether to stay and fight or leave with the soldiers.
Meanwhile, the Russian forces begin to gain the upper hand in the conflict, and Thomas is forced to take desperate measures to protect those around him. With the help of a Georgian soldier, he leads a group of civilians to safety, narrowly escaping the onslaught of Russian forces.
