Synopsis/Plot
21 Grams is a 2003 drama film written and directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu. It stars Sean Penn, Naomi Watts, and Benicio del Toro.
The film follows the lives of three strangers whose paths cross in unexpected ways. Paul (Sean Penn) is a mathematics professor who is trying to cope with the death of his wife and children in a car accident. Cristina (Naomi Watts) is a former drug addict who has just been released from prison and is trying to rebuild her life. Jack (Benicio del Toro) is a criminal who is struggling with his own guilt and regret.
The film is told in a non-linear fashion, with scenes jumping back and forth in time. As the story progresses, the lives of the three characters become intertwined in unexpected ways.
The film explores the themes of grief, guilt, and redemption. It examines how people cope with tragedy and how they come to terms with their own mortality. It also examines how a single event can have a ripple effect on the lives of many people.
The performances of the three leads are powerful and emotionally charged. The film is beautifully shot and the score is hauntingly evocative.
