No matter how many setbacks they had, Nokia has managed to squeak out as the top mobile phone producer. Throughout 2011, Nokia shipped 417.1 million mobile phones across the planet, an increase of 14% compared to the same time in 2010 (year to year).
This huge number of mobile phone manufactured and shipped, easily beats Motorola and Apple, and gives Nokia the top coveted spot. Nokia has now partnered with Microsoft for the Windows Phone, but before that, seeing Nokia in anyone’s hands was rare.
Suffering from the competition of the iPhone and slew of Android powered smartphones, Nokia’s secret remained in the anything but smartphone line of mobility. When lining up a global perspective, Nokia clearly rules the “average” mobile phone arena.
Competitors are still pulling in numbers against Nokia’s previous stronghold, as more and more consumers look to enter the smartphone market, but with any luck on their side with the Microsoft partnership, and Nokia could very well stay a main name in phone sales.
