It seems the online world continues to suffer from abnormalities, as Twitter announces the ability to block and remove Tweets from their social platform. A complete turn around from the stance last year that “the tweets must flow” ideal that many of their users embraced, especially in suppressed societies.
Twitter first announced the new policy in their blog posting, however many have looked to Twitter as a free speech beacon and wouldn’t have expected such a move. Placed in tough spot to seek expansion in areas with low or restricted user interaction, where rules of the entering country must be adhered to, Twitter announced it would seek to expand the user base of Tweeters from 100 million to nearly 1 billion users.
Not without some confusion though, Twitter did confirm that a tweet removed from one geographical location could still be seen elsewhere, in a sort of compromise to the new remove all policy, and place itself in more of a “on the fence” stance.
The larger, more effective part still goes on lock-down though, as users will not be able to get their message, or should we say tweet, out to those who need to hear their 140 characters.
