The rumored release for the Droid 4 was to be for today, but there have been no announcements or press releases for this from Verizon and the conclusion is that it is not happening this week. Leaked information that was coming out showed that the release date for the Droid 4 was December 8th and there were many who were expecting that to take place for this great new phone from Motorola which included a slide out keyboard. That feature is one that many were looking for as they love the feeling of typing on an actual keyboard as opposed to the touch screen keyboards. The slide out keyboard can appeal to those Blackberry userswho are looking for a switch.
At this point, the release date is an unknown and there are no indications of when it might be. This is tied to the rumored release date for the Galaxy Nexus which is also slipping at Verizon as well. It seems that all the phones where were scheduled to be released by Verizon this week have been delayed and with the holiday season upon us now, they are going to miss a golden opportunity to sell phones, in particularly the Droid 4 with its slide out keyboard and 4G LTE services on Verizon’s expanding LTE network. Verizon is announcing an expanding LTE network covering 190 markets in the US for December 15th and that would be a great time to release the Droid 4.
The Motorola Droid 4 has cleared the FCC and here is the filing at the FCC for your review. It looks like it has very recently cleared the required FCC approval and that may account for the date slippage for the DROID 4 to arrive at Verizon.
In the past, Verizon has made advertising presentations for the Droid line of phones and with those presentations, they have set up a week for pre-orders for those who want to be able to get the phones first . There is no reason to believe that Verizon is going to change the marketing plans, so we need to watch for a press event from Verizon related to the Droid 4 to be able to determine the release date for the Droid 4.

Hello. fantastic job. I did not anticipate this. This is a great story. Thanks!
CostCo based Verizon kiosk staffer gave the same spiel of ignorance but did mention that “it is not uncommon to have hardware in stock prior authorized release.”
Having been in a high security posting I recognize a non-admission that the hardware is already on sit but not worth losing a job over.
Called for tech support yesterday and the rep handled the problem however all he wanted to do was upgrade my droid 1 to the razor. Why would I do that when I have a keyboard and want to replace with another.I said I would wait for the Droid 4 and he got quiet!
As a BBerry user with Verizon I almost switched to ATT solely because of the exclusivity of the Torch 2 and quickly reconsidered when I caught rumor of the Droid 4. New phone + slide out keyboard = win.
Based on my intel of dealings with Verizon’s employee knowledge when questioned about these releases and their reactions. I have deduced a member of their family is held hostage as collateral should they release any information early and it seems to be accurate when you press them on anything…try it.
This is what I got back from Verizon on Twitter:

I am waiting for the Droid4. I am happy with my Droid2Global until the 4 hits the market.
What’s a Droid 4?
Sincerely, VZW employee
I think Verizon makes them sound like idiots when you ask them questions. I think Verizon makes them sign a gag order so the “associates” don’t spill the beans when questioned about upcoming releases. I asked a guy at Verizon about the 4s the day before they came out and he said the same thing. “I’ve never heard of the 4s” Canned answer…
My husband works for Verizon and he’s known about the Droid 4 but non of them know the release date.
Likewise, I asked at a Verizon store today for any news on the Droid 4 and the sales reps all said they have never even heard of a Droid 4.
Thats pretty funny, my bro has done the same thing, keeps holding onto the droid 1. And ive come to the conclussion that every vzw employee is an idiot, they really dont know anything, at all.
My boyfriend (a Droid loyalist) drove out to his nearest Verizon store at 9am this morning to get the phone. The staff said they’d never heard of the Droid 4. He also called Verizon, the rep told him the same thing. He’s pretty pissed. He’s been holding onto his Droid 1, refusing to settle for anything less than another Droid (w/ keyboard). lol
I can second this…called verizon today, the rep said she had never heard of a droid 4 lol.
