Facebook has a new security error that has come up where you can lose the rights to your Facebook page. This can happen if you have added others to have rights to act as the admin to your Facebook page. There is a security flaw that currently exists, or it did until late last night, where you as the original administrator can be removed from having rights to maintain the pages with no way to get them back.
When you lose the administrative rights to your page, you lose access to maintain them and with that, you can lose all the work and time that you have spent on creating some great Facebook pages. You would think that Facebook would protect the original admin on a Facebook page from being deleted and you would be correct if you were looking at their help pages where it says that the original page administrator cannot be removed. Here is what it says in the Facebook help.

Each business account or personal account on the site should only be used by one individual. This individual should be the owner of the email address used as the login email address for the account.
A Page can have multiple administrators. Each Page administrator will need to have their own business account or personal account. Every admin can manage the Page from their own Facebook account using the “Page Manager” application that will appear in the left hand column of the Applications section once they become an admin for a Page. Every admin has equal access to and the same abilities as the other admins for a Page, however the original creator of the Page may never be removed by other Page admins.
Based on that, you would believe that you have nothing to worry about by adding others to be page administrators to you Facebook page. But now there are numerous reports that you can indeed remove the original page administrator from a Facebook page. This should be a serious concern to anyone who has granted others access to be a page administrator to their Facebook page.
Naked Security has created a video that shows exactly how this can be done and it is disturbing to see, given that we believed what Facebook has said in their own help. Not the first time that their help has been wrong.Richard Pike
